Alter Bridge - This Is War
There are a lot of bands that you could say are synonymous with the hard rock genre, including the Florida quartet of Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall, Scott Phillips, and Myles Kennedy, aka, Alter Bridge. Formed in 2004 in Orlando, Alter Bridge have spent the last 18 years going from strength to strength and in July of 2022 they announced their new record Pawns & Kings, due to be released this Friday, October 14 via Napalm Records.
Alter Bridge - This Is War
Alter Bridge bring the muscle on 2022's Pawns & Kings, their mighty seventh studio set and first since 2019's Walk the Sky. The Floridian post-grunge survivors keep their formula intact, working with longtime producer Michael Baskette on one of their heaviest outings yet. While there may be few surprises here, Alter Bridge have settled into a rather consistent groove over the past decade, playing to their melodic hard rock strengths while working within a set framework. Almost progressive in length, weighty songs like the "Fable of the Silent Son" and the title track lean into the band's power and fantasy metal tendencies. At this point in their career, the core duo of singer/guitarist Myles Kennedy and lead guitarist/singer Mark Tremonti presents a streamlined front bolstered by rhythm section Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips, a brotherhood that remains unchanged since the group's 2004 debut. From the opening battle cry of "This Is War" to the slick and tuneful "Last Man Standing," Pawns & Kings adds another reliable and tightly crafted volume to Alter Bridge's robust canon.
Pawns & Kings is the upcoming seventh studio album by American rock band Alter Bridge. It is scheduled for an October 14, 2022 release via Napalm Records, nearly three years after previous album Walk the Sky. The album's title and release date were confirmed in an interview with guitarist Mark Tremonti. To promote the album, Alter Bridge will embark on a European tour later this year with Halestorm and Mammoth WVH.
Even knowing this, and no matter how many times you've heard the man drop references to bands like Celtic Frost and Kreator when talking about the dark side, it's once again an eyebrow raiser that Pawns & Kings is as beefy as it is. As ever, rooted in a classic style not a million miles from Soundgarden at their most sparkling, and topped by Myles Kennedy's uniformly superb vocals, the choruses of Dead Among The Living, Holiday and the soaring Stay (on which Mark takes up the mic) are as massive as one would expect from experts of the form. But around them the guitar work is monstrous. 041b061a72
